In positioning itself as the supplier of premium garden tools, Smith & Hawken sought to create a “lasting catalog” filled with useful tips that would help customers understand how to use the tool properly and want to keep the catalog around for future reference. We produced a catalog that was multilayered, with information on the tools, their uses and the care with which they were made. Pages were allocated for pertinent subjects such as propagating plants, creating organic soil and composting. For the covers of remail catalogs, we featured older tools showing the patina of use and their durability and quality.
